RANGERS PICK UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF
The 2014 season opened at Bonnabel with the defending champion Rangers defeating the Phillies 20-0. Spencer Ott tossed four innings giving up 1 unearned run on 2hits while striking out 5. The rangers were led at the plate by Chris Ricky 3 for 4 a double and 3 rbi's, Mike Wetzel 3-3 rbi and Howard Farmer 2for 3 with 3 rbi.
REDS DEFEAT SOX
Game 2 at Bonnabel had the Reds defeating the White sox The White Sox let a 5-4 lead slip away as the Reds scored 5 runs in the 6th on 6 hits to take the lead for good. The big blows were a 2 run double by Michael Windham with the bases load and a 2 run single by Melvin Howard. The Reds were led at the plate by Ben Connole 3for 3 2 rbi, and Melvin Howard 2 for 3 with 2 rbi. Fred Alfred pitched 5.1 innings in relief of Lloyd Delahoussey for the win.
CARDINALS POUND OUT 16 HITS IN VICTORY OVER TIGERS
The Cardinals and Tigers opened the season in LaPlace with the Cardinals coming out on top 20-9. Bo Levitt tossed a 6 inning complete game to get the victory for the Cards. Bill Bourgeois took the loss for the Tigers. The Cards scored in every inning on their way to the victory. Steve Manor, 3 for 4 double , rbi, Dan Long 2 for 4 3 rbi SF BB, and Anthony Hebert 3 for 4 2 rbi s BB, led the Cards at the plate. Travis Puls 2 for 4 inside the park homerun, and John Paciera 2 for 3 led the double 2 rbi led the Tigers.
DODGERS SCORE RUN IN EIGHT TO DEFEAT THE CUBS
In the marquee matchup of the weekend the Paul Mancuso, of the Cubs, would face off against Jimmy Barta, of the Dodgers. The Dodgers opened the game with 2 runs in the first. The Cubs would push across 3 runs in the second on 2 hits to take a 4-2 lead. Barta, who gave up 4 hits in the first two frames, would settle in and allow 1 run on 6 hits and strike out 15 over the final 7 innings to get the complete game victory. The Dodgers went up 5-4 after a Mike Williams two out double. The Cubs would tie it up in the seventh on a two out rbi single by John O'Reilly. The Dodgers would win it in the eighth when Reggie Lane would walk and come around and score on an error. Gene Schmaltz, pitched 2 innings, would get the loss in relief of Mancuso. Greg Cahill and Kevin Martin each had two hits for the Cubs. Ryan Walsh led the Dodgers with 2 hits.
